THE KINDRED SPIRITS CHILDREN'S JAZZ CHOIRS are comprised of children drawn from inner-city organizations and schools By singing songs written by such great composers as Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Irving Berlin and George and Ira Gershwin, the youngsters are introduced to both the legacy of jazz and to the great American song. Through the choirs the children experience the structure, discipline and joyful interaction inherent in jazz. The first Jazz Choirs have been formed with girls from the "Best Friend" program, an organization founded by Mrs. William J. Bennett in Washington DC and the choir was featured recently at Kennedy Center. The Children's Jazz Choirs was recently the subject of a report on CBS Sunday Morning.
