St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church
86th St. and West End Ave., New York City
Tickets : $30, children/seniors $20
Beginning with Creation up to our “civilization” the show musically incorporates works of such writers from Hildegard of Bingen who, in 1098, wrote “All nature is at the disposal of humankind. We are to work with it, for without it we cannot survive.” to Mark Twain, John Muir, Chief Seattle and Madeleine L’Engle. Using many genres of music: Jazz, Latin, Gospel, and Choral, the show is sung, danced and acted by a vital, diverse cast, backed by an exciting band.
The piece is woven together into a performance that leaves the audience with a joyful appreciation of Creation combined with a determination to personally DO something to live a more sustainable, earth-connected life.
“Such a worthy bookend for those of us who still cherish 'Born to Be Blue'" –Rex Reed
“It was fascinating to hear Anne Phillips apply her freer, more sophisticated, jazzier style to standards, and her own songs. And her freer, sophisticated, jazzier style is in full display on this outstanding recording.”
–Ron Weinstock, Jazz & Blues Report
“Phillips adds thoughtful anecdotes that help the audience – and now listeners – understand her history in a beautiful, personal way. Her original gems feel comfortable alongside classics by Mel Torme and The Gershwins. They are even more emotionally gripping.” –Jonathan Widran, The JW Vibe
"Where has this captivating performer been all our lives?"–Hollywood Variety/Reuters
Anne tells her story in the Fall 2017 issue of the International Alliance of Women in Music Journal.
